Course Description:
This is an introductory course into one of the largest health epidemics in the world, especially in
the United States. We will start the course with an introduction to the pancreas and insulin. We
will then explore different forms of diabetes, including their epidemiology, pathophysiology, and
clinical presentation. To finish the course, we will discuss how to diagnose different types of
diabetes and how to treat them. As the course progresses, we will work through a real patient
case simultaneously. I will do my best to give you a glimpse of what medical school education is
like and show you how a physician processes information when presented with a case. If you are
interested in the medical field or human biology or just want to learn more about diabetes, this is
the course for you. Students of all levels are welcome; I will do my best to build from the ground
up.
